What a difference a year — and a couple of surprise election results — makes! U.K. and U.S. equity markets appear to have fallen out of favor with investors, according to an Interactive Investor survey of more than 9,000 of its clients. Looking ahead, just 8.2 percent of the participants tipped the U.K. to deliver the highest equity returns in 2017, while the U.S. only received 7.2 percent of the vote. This compares with last year's poll, which saw the U.K. leading the way on 36 percent of the vote, followed by the U.S. with 20.7 percent. Europe, however, remains positive for investors, with 24.5 percent expecting the region to outperform other markets, up from 19.8 percent for 2016. Europe sits just behind China in the 2017 poll, which was preferred by 27.7 percent of participants. Interactive Investor Head of Investment Rebecca O'Keeffe said: "With U.S. stocks at record highs and the U.K. heading into the unknown, our investors appear to be shifting their gaze elsewhere. An obvious place to focus is those markets that have underperformed this year."
